Making an Appointment

We ask that all patients have a pregnancy test (home tests are OK) before calling for an appointment. Important medical conditions to bring to our attention include heart problems or surgery, high blood pressure, seizure disorders, asthma, diabetes, bleeding/clotting problems, current infections or STD's, hepatitis and allergies to medications.

Please inform us of any condition that would affect outpatient surgery under local anesthetic. Dr. Cousins is happy to consult with your doctor about complicated medical conditions; medical clearance may sometimes be requested.

Patients should plan to stay at the office about 3-4 hours, although the abortion itself takes about 5 minutes or less in most cases. Patients are encouraged to bring one friend or relative to the office with them, but not children. Fasting is not necessary; in fact, you should eat a light meal--but no fast food!--about 2 hours before your appointment.
