We are fortunate to know Rev. Rebecca Turner whose passion is letting women know that clergy and religious people stand with women who seek abortion. Turner states clearly, "Including your spirituality in your decision-making can enrich and enhance this experience in your life."
Faith Aloud has just posted four videos on their website of clergy speaking directly to women who are considering or who have had an abortion. One is in Spanish, one from a Christian perspective, one from a Jewish perspective, and one from a spiritual/humanist point of view. Each is less than 4 minutes.
According to Director Peg Johnston, "We know that many of our patients grapple with the ethical decisions around a pregnancy decision. They are weighing life options and are trying hard to do the best thing for all concerned." Patients sometimes assume that all religions and all clergy are against abortion, but that is not true. In fact, we owe the legalization of abortion largely to the faith based communities who provided services for women and lobbied hard for reform of the abortion laws in the early 70's.
