Dr. Cousins offers the birth control pill, the Shot, IUD's, diaphragms and cervical caps. We include birth control counseling including likely birth control side effects, effectiveness of all methods, and what method is right for you.

Dr. Cousins can provide birth control methods for her patients including all kinds of birth control pills (current brand name pills include Loestrin 24FE, LoLoestrin, Beyaz, Safyral, Ortho TriCyclen Lo, Generess FE), the Ortho Evra patch, Nuva Ring, Depo Provera (the shot), the ParaGard or Mirena IUD, and barrier methods such as the diaphragm and cervical cap. Contraceptive counseling includes pill side effects, the effectiveness of all methods and which method might be good for you. Dr. Cousins does not perform tubal ligations, but can provide referrals for tubals and vasectomies. Dr. Cousins accepts most insurances but also has very reasonable fees for birth control appointments.

Emergency Contraception
Also known as the "Morning After Treatment," Emergency Contraception using Plan B is now available at most pharmacies for anyone over 18. You must ask the pharmacist who will review instructions. Requirements include unprotected intercourse less than 120 hours ago; it is most effective in the first 12-24 hours after unprotected intercourse, but may be effective up to 120 hours. ("Sooner, better")There is a theoretical success rate of about 85%, although results cannot be guaranteed.
Prescriptions for the newer Emergency Contraception, Ella, a newer medication are available.
Established patients (within the last year) can get a prescription over the phone for Plan B or Ella; we cannot accept afterhours calls for this service.
