Emergency Contraception

Also known as the "Morning After Treatment," Emergency Contraception using Plan B is now available at most pharmacies for anyone over 18. You must ask the pharmacist who will review instructions. Requirements include unprotected intercourse less than 120 hours ago; it is most effective in the first 12-24 hours after unprotected intercourse, but may be effective up to 120 hours. ("Sooner, better")

There is a theoretical success rate of about 85%, although results cannot be guaranteed.

Established patients (within the last year) can get a prescription over the phone for Plan B; we cannot accept afterhours calls for this service. Minors can call or walk in during business hours. Additional resources include the Emergency Contraception Hotline at 1-888-NOT-2- LATE or the website www.not2late.org
